Hello Don,
Appreciated your research into Mini Metro engine numbers. You also published a technical article (thanks!) dealing with the same subject on your MiniMania site, including the code descriptions for the various engine details/fitments. Unfortunately not all the codes were noted; have you run across anything like a ‘complete’ list?

(Trying to produce a missing data plate for the Turbo Metro engine from the mid-80s I’m restoring.)

Where is the motor designation number located on a metro motor?

My engine No. is 12A2DF 76280703.
This series is not included in the above list. My Mini is a rover 1.3i Auto Transmission – Fuel Injection.

Could you help me to identify the exact model of this car and the Chassis no. of this car?

Bill P, I’ve never seen a complete list. The information I’ve found (so far!) is what is in the article.

Jason, No such thing as a high or low compression Metro Turbo. They are all the same at 9.4:1. Other Metros had both higher and lower compression as well as the same.

Bill, Engine number in the same spot as other A-series engines; i.e., on a ledge just below number one spark plug.

Sarath, You won’t find your Mini engine number in a Metro number list! You will find it in the the Mini Identification list on the Mini Mania web site, http://www.minimania.com See under Articles/Technical Information/General. You find teh 12A2DF76 says it’s an SPi automatic with 9.4:1 compression ratio. That’s all you’ll get from the engine number. You need the VIN to be able to come up with the car is…or at least what the VIN is if it doesn’t belong with the car.

Hi I have got this engine- 12A2DK72 389662 which is a ‘99 but with a single point injector- is it possible? This was brought from Japan.
Can you also let me know what the compression ratio of this engine
